About Natthakur, fine leather designs
Natalie Thakur is an emerging fine leather designer based in London. Using the highest quality leathers which are ethically sourced, she designs and currently hand crafts an array of witty gifts and accessories, from purses and wallets through to bags. Her products have gained major press internationally being featured in The World of Interiors, Blue Print, Instyle, Easy Living, The Times, Daily Mail and Elle Decoration to name a few.
Natthakur London offers unique luxury leather gifts and accessories with an unusual and eclectic take on leather design. With previous experience working on bespoke furnishings and accessories for companies such as Ghost and Mulberry, Nat is a highly skilled leather designer / maker. She began designing her own unique line of leather gifts under 'Natthakur' in 2005 after learning the craft at the prestitious Cordwainer's also known as The London College of Fashion in London.
Her novel take on distinctive retro objects such as old British coins and traditional sweet shop bags result in quirky, functional and durable gifts such as the Half Crown coin purse. In addition, with an ethical policy to only use leather that is a bi-product of meat, Nat's designs are not only fun and contemporary but also suitable for the eco concious. This eco awareness has also been reflected in Nat's 'Reusable Range' in which her take on throw away 'paper' and 'grocery' bags highlights the disparity between disposability and longevity by recreating these designs in leather.
Items from her 'Reusable Range' have been put on permanent display in the UK's only leather museum in Walsall. Furthermore, her pieces have been displayed at design shows such as 'Plastic Fantastic' at NESTA (The National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts), highlighting how her designs are not simply visually appealing but also extremely innovative.
Her limited edition leather goods and accessories have already received critical acclaim, with her famous leather grocery bag being voted the number 1 best gift in The Independent. Due to great interest, Nat proceeded to make an exclusive version of the bag as a giveaway for the On/Off show at London Fashion Week 2008, 600 bags were given away and 100 of an extra special version were given to VIPs.
Some of her best sellers such as her leather bank bags, swag bags and carrier bags were purchased by the English luxury brand Thomas Lyte who have named her on their website as the creator.
